Am Yisrael Chai-na!

This lovely photo essay about the Jews of China hit home to me for a number of reasons, not the least of which being that my own grandmother journeyed through Harbin on her way out of Russia to America (she took the long way, at the end of WW 1). My thanks to Darlene Hornstein for sending me on this journey by sharing the file. See the powerpoint presentation here.

I then looked more closely at the site, Shtetlinks, which tells the stories of many places where Jews have lived around the world.

See the Harbin page at http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/harbin/ and then do somem exploring of your own.

Jews of India? No problem. Click here.
What has India to do with Cuba? Jews of course. Find out why.

While the prime focus of the site naturally brings us to Poland and Eastern Europe, you can read about such far flunf diaspora communities as Brockton, Massachusetts.

And, back to China, also see this interesting news report: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vH7pWQ5sWE.
