Rotem Bill Moratorium Extended in Israel

Some small triumphs for democracy in Israel. Avigdor Lieberman's efforts to intimidate human rights groups with a Knesset Investigation has been stymied. Also, the advancement of the Conversion Bill was postponed an additional 6 months - until July 10, 2011. During the freeze, the Reform and Conservative Movements have agreed to hold off on petitions to the Supreme Court on this issue, and Jewish Agency chairman Natan Sharansky will mediate negotiations between the parties during this time.

And mark the date of Jan 28, Friday evening, for the appearance here of the New Israel Fund's executive director in Israel, Rachel Liel, who will speak on A Critical Conversation about Israel’s Democracy.
